Adapted Badminton Unit for Middle and High School Special Ed PE

About This Product
This adapted PE badminton unit has 7 lessons for a mixed-ability class. Every lesson includes Level A, B, and C options, plus rules at three levels, a station rotation, a skill rubric, a class record, a round-robin, an IEP data sheet for one student, and student self-rate cards.
Why I made this: Badminton is a lifetime sport that works in almost any gym, and the slow flight of a shuttle gives my students time to track it and swing. Balloons and oversized shuttles get every student hitting on day one. I built it to pair with my Pickleball unit, since the court size and many of the cues are the same, so students can carry skills from one net sport to the other.
What’s included (18 pages):
- Teacher overview, level definitions, and a 7-day unit calendar
- Standard and modified equipment, space setup, and safety and inclusion notes
- 7 lessons with Level A, B, and C on every page: grip and ready position, underhand hit, the serve, overhead clear, net shots and footwork, rules and modified games, and a round-robin day
- A court and rules page with object, hits, net, scoring, and court size at three levels
- A 5-station rotation, a skill check rubric, and a class record sheet
- A 5-team round-robin chart and a score sheet
- An IEP data sheet for one student, with a summary line for progress reports
- Student self-rate cards
How I use it: I teach one lesson a day, run the station rotation as review, and finish with the round-robin. Students choose the object, net height, and number of hits as part of their level, so mixed teams can play together. Students who use wheelchairs or play seated can use a lowered net, a smaller court, and a longer racket. I take IEP data at the stations with the one-student data sheet.
Who it is for: Adapted PE teachers, inclusive general PE teachers, special education teachers who run PE, and transition teachers planning community recreation.
