Bees and Pollination word search, scramble and crossword puzzle
I made this bees and pollination puzzle set for my 2nd and 3rd graders during our spring science unit. The kids knew bees made honey and were important, but they had no idea about the details of their body parts, or what words like pollen, nectar, or pollination actually meant. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like bee, hive, honey, pollen, nectar, flower, pollination, wings, antennae, stinger, bee, queen, worker, drone, hive, honeycomb, beekeeper, and wax.
The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about the spelling of antennae or whether a drone is a male or female bee (male, and they always debate it). The crossword I use for partners or as a review, and I usually have a simple diagram of a bee's body parts nearby for the kids who need the visual support.
Works for 2nd through 4th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers draw a bee and label its parts on the back, or write one way bees help plants grow. The kids actually ask for these now.
