Cells and Organelles Word Search and Scramble Activity

Recognise and correctly spell twenty-five cell-biology terms, including the harder ones such as endoplasmic reticulum, phagocytosis and pinocytosis

State the function of each named organelle in one line - for example that the Golgi processes and packages proteins and the lysosome digests waste materials

Reconstruct a scientific term from a scrambled string, using letter patterns and prior knowledge of the topic with the plain word-search list available as support

Run the plain word search first and hold the scrambled version back: the same twenty-five terms appear in both, but the scrambled grid needs the spellings already secure

Terms are supplied without a diagram, so pair the definition table with your own cell diagram if students still need to place each organelle inside the cell

Cell vocabulary recall - students locate all twenty-five terms in a grid and then reproduce them from scrambled strings such as PLASMCYTO, MOSOCHROMER and GOCYTOSIPHA.

Organelle function - the definition table asks for a written function for each of nucleus, mitochondria, ribosome, Golgi, lysosome, endoplasmic reticulum, chloroplast, cell wall and vacuole.
