Citizenship Vocabulary word search, scramble and crossword puzzle

I made this citizenship vocabulary puzzle set for my 2nd and 3rd graders during our civics unit. The kids knew they were citizens but had no idea what words like responsibility, vote, or community service meant. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like citizen, country, flag, pledge, respect, responsibility, vote, election, community, service, volunteer, help, obey, law, and belong. Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the vocabulary finally stick.

The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about what kids can do to be good citizens. The crossword I use for partners. I added a couple simple flag and handshake drawings but nothing too busy.

Works for 1st through 4th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers list two ways to be a good citizen on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.
