Most civics teachers solve two problems every year and solve them separately. The first is the opening five minutes of class, every day, from the first week to the last. The second is the morning they cannot come in and someone who may never have taught government has to run the room. This file answers both, and keeps the answers in one place.

The larger part is a full year of warm-ups: thirty-six weekly pages, one prompt a day. The week moves through the same five kinds of thinking so students learn the routine quickly. Monday asks for a definition in their own words. Tuesday gives a short reading and one question on it. Wednesday puts a source or a situation in front of them to analyze. Thursday is a quick multiple-choice check. Friday asks a question with no single right answer, where a claim needs a reason. The weeks follow the order most government courses already use, from why government exists, through the founding documents and the three branches, to rights, elections, media and local government.

The smaller part is a five-day emergency week. It opens with one page written for the substitute in plain language: what to hand out, how the pages check themselves, and why nothing needs grading. Each day is a nonfiction reading on a core topic with comprehension questions, then a second page where the answers pair off, spell a phrase, or fall into order, so a student can tell on their own when something is wrong. Any day can run on its own, so a single absence uses a single day and the rest stay in the folder.

Everything prints on ordinary paper in low ink. There is no device, login, video or set-up anywhere in it. A contents page at the front gives the page range for each part, and every answer sits together at the back, well away from the pages students see.
