Community Helpers Construction Workers word search, scramble and crossword puzzle

I made this community helpers construction workers puzzle set for my 1st and 2nd graders during our community unit. The kids loved watching construction sites but had no idea what words like hard hat, bulldozer, or blueprint meant when we talked about the jobs and tools these helpers use. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like construction, builder, hard hat, vest, boots, bulldozer, crane, hammer, nail, saw, blueprint, and safety. Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the vocabulary finally stick.

The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess or indoor recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about whether a crane is bigger than a bulldozer. The crossword I use for partners or as a review. I added a couple simple hard hat, hammer, and bulldozer drawings but nothing too busy.

Works for K through 3rd grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers draw a construction worker and label one tool they use on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.
