Community Helpers Teachers word search, scramble and crossword puzzle

I made this community helpers teachers puzzle set for my 1st and 2nd graders during our community unit. The kids knew a lot about what teachers do because they saw us every day, but they had no idea what words like lesson, classroom, or whiteboard meant when we talked about the tools and routines of teaching. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like teacher, classroom, lesson, read, write, math, science, art, music, desk, whiteboard, marker, pencil, and student. Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the vocabulary finally stick.

The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess or indoor recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about whether a whiteboard or a chalkboard is better. The crossword I use for partners or as a review. I added a couple simple apple, pencil, and whiteboard drawings but nothing too busy.

Works for K through 3rd grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers draw a picture of their favorite classroom activity on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.
