Cosmetology Vocabulary word search, scramble and crossword puzzle
I made this cosmetology vocabulary puzzle set for my 4th graders during our career exploration unit. The kids were fascinated by the beauty industry, but they had no idea that the field has its own deep scientific vocabulary. They kept asking, "What's a cuticle?" or "What's the difference between a toner and a cleanser?" . So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using key terms that cover everything from the basics of the profession (cosmetology, salon, esthetician, skincare, makeup, haircolor) to the tools of the trade (flat iron, curler, shampoo, conditioner, foundation) . I also made sure to include foundational science terms like collagen, elastin, melanin, and follicles, along with professional concepts like consultation and sanitation, because they're central to the practice . I even threw in a few like "contamination" and "disinfection" since sanitation and safety are non-negotiable in a salon environment .
The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess or as a quick intro to the unit. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about the spelling of "pedicure" or whether "manicure" and "pedicure" are related . The crossword I use for partners or as a review after we've watched a short video about salon careers. I added a couple simple comb, nail polish, and makeup brush drawings but nothing too busy.
Works for 4th through 6th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers pick one cosmetology career from the puzzles and write what they do on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.
