Counting Cars – Reading Comprehension Worksheet – 1st Grade Practice

Counting Cars – Reading Comprehension Worksheet helps first grade learners practice reading comprehension with clear directions and a clean, kid-friendly layout. Print it and it is ready for class, homework, or homeschool lessons.

Learning objective: Students will build accuracy and confidence with reading comprehension through short, focused practice that reinforces what was taught in class.

Why it works: Practice like this gives students a chance to try reading comprehension on their own after you teach it. Because the page is quick to complete and easy to review, it fits into almost any part of the school day.

What's included:

• 2-page printable worksheet

• Clear, student-friendly directions

• Answer key (1 page)

• Cover page

How it's organized: The page opens with these directions: "Count slowly and carefully. Then you will not miss one. If you lose track, start over at one. The more you practice, the better you will get!" Students then complete the practice items in order and check their work before turning it in.

Grade level: Designed for first grade students. It also works well for kindergarten and second grade students who need extra practice or a fresh review.

How to use it: Use it for whole-group practice, small-group instruction, independent work, centers, morning work, homework, or an emergency sub plan.

Answer key: An answer key is included, so you can check work quickly or let students self-correct.

Teaching tips and variations:

• Use it as an exit ticket the day after a reading comprehension lesson to see who needs more support.

• Model the first item together, then let students finish the rest independently.

• Keep a few copies in your early finisher bin for independent review.
