About This Product

It's likely that your kids have already labeled a graphic of the water cycle.

This is not the same.

They are given a mystery to investigate by the Water Cycle Detective Case File.

There was a loss of water.

They must ascertain its whereabouts.

Every scene in the investigation places students in front of real evidence, such as a puddle that keeps becoming smaller, water that appears on a chilly window, or a weather report with an impending storm, and asks them to use science to explain it.

They employ evaporation, condensation, precipitation, runoff, infiltration, collection, and transpiration, but they come across each of these processes while attempting to solve a problem rather than while replicating a definition.

A temperature and puddle-size data table is available for analysis.

A storm forecast to make and protect.

a series of actions to take after it rains.

When they reach transpiration, they are integrating it into all they have already studied rather than learning about a plant's functions in isolation.

A Claim-Evidence-Reasoning response concludes the entire case.

Students develop a real argument explaining what they believe occurred to the lost water.

That's the culminating task.

Ten student pages total.

Includes a final assessment, a vocabulary check, a water cycle diagram, and answer keys.

Prints in black and white.

Fits grades 3 through 5.

Works for whole-class lessons, centers, independent work, or early finishers who are ready for something that requires real thinking.

Can run as a standalone activity or inside a water cycle unit.

If they've already done the standard worksheet, this is where you go next.
