Fairy Tales Jack and the Beanstalk word search, scramble and crossword puzzle

I made this Jack and the Beanstalk puzzle set for my 1st and 2nd graders during our fairy tale unit. The kids were obsessed with the giant and the magic beans, but they kept mixing up the order of the story . So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words from the classic tale like Jack, giant, beans, hen, harp, cow, cottage, cloud, castle, and magic . Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the vocabulary finally stick.

The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about whether the giant can smell Jack (he can, and the kids always have opinions about it) . The crossword I use for partners, and I usually have a picture of the beanstalk and the giant's castle nearby for the kids who need a visual. I added a couple simple beanstalk and castle drawings but nothing too busy.

Works for 1st through 3rd grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers draw their own version of the beanstalk on the back and label it with three words from the puzzle. The kids actually ask for these now.
