Fairy Tales Sleeping Beauty word search, scramble and crossword puzzle
I made this Sleeping Beauty puzzle set for my 1st and 2nd graders during our fairy tale unit. The kids were captivated by the idea of a princess who slept for a hundred years, but they kept getting the key objects mixed up—like the spinning wheel and the spindle, or the names of the three good fairies. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words from the classic tale like Sleeping Beauty, princess, Aurora, prince, castle, spinning wheel, spindle, curse, fairy, magic, and dream. I also included a few like "prick" and "hundred years" because the kids always ask about how the curse actually works and how long she was asleep.
The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess, and the scramble gets them talking because they argue about the spelling of "Aurora" or whether the spinning wheel and spindle are the same thing. The crossword I use for partners, and I usually have a picture of the spinning wheel nearby for the kids who need a visual. I added a couple simple castle, spindle, and fairy drawings but nothing too busy.
Works for 1st through 3rd grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers draw their own version of the sleeping castle on the back and label it with three words from the puzzle. The kids actually ask for these now.
