Financial Literacy Saving and Spending word search, scramble and crossword puzzle

I made this financial literacy saving and spending puzzle set for my 3rd and 4th graders during our economics unit. The kids could count money but had no idea what words like save, spend, or budget meant when we started talking about how to manage money. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like save, spend, budget, goal, income, allowance, deposit, withdrawal, want, need, and plan . I also included a few like "interest" and "credit" because they kept coming up in our class discussions . Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the vocabulary finally stick.

The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess, and the scramble gets them talking because they argue about the spelling of "allowance" (it's a tricky one) or whether a need and a want are the same thing (they're not—they always have opinions about it) . The crossword I use for partners or as a review, and I usually have a simple budget chart or a list of needs and wants nearby for the kids who need the visual support to see the difference . I added a couple simple piggy bank, coin, and dollar sign drawings but nothing too busy.

Works for 3rd through 5th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers write one savings goal they have on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.
