Teaching tips & learning objectives
Teaching tips
Print only the pages for the phrase in use - the file runs "great minds grow here!" first, then "hopping into spring!", then "happy Easter!", then "hello spring!", each twice over before the artwork sheets begin.
Because every letter has a sheet to itself, a single word can be sent to one paper colour and the next word to another without splitting a page.
Two complete sets of each phrase let a bulletin board and a door go up together, or leave a spare letter in reserve if one tears during the term.
The graphic that sits between each pair of words works as a spacer on the board, keeping the gaps even when a long phrase is stretched across a wall.
The unlettered artwork sheets at the end of the file are the ones to pull for borders, corners and door framing once the wording is up.
Skills covered
Bulletin board assembly — teachers print, cut out and arrange the single-letter sheets that spell "great minds grow here!" across a display board.
Door display setup — the same four phrases print one letter to a page for a classroom entrance, and each phrase is supplied twice so a board and a door can be dressed from one file.
Seasonal classroom theming — a room moves through the season with "hello spring!", "hopping into spring!" and "happy Easter!" headers plus the unlettered artwork sheets that follow them.
Good to know
Questions teachers ask about this resource
Which display phrases does the kit actually spell out?
Four: "great minds grow here!", "hopping into spring!", "happy Easter!" and "hello spring!". Each one is laid out letter by letter and each appears twice in the file, so the same wording can go up in two places or a second set can be held back.
How is the lettering arranged for printing and cutting?
One character to a sheet, in reading order, with the sheets for each word running consecutively and a full-page graphic between one word and the next. Sending a whole phrase to the printer therefore produces a stack of individual letters ready to cut out and pin up, and any single letter can be reprinted on its own.
