Human Rights Vocabulary word search, scramble and crossword puzzle

I made this human rights vocabulary puzzle set for my 4th and 5th graders during our social studies unit. The kids had heard of rights like freedom of speech but had no idea about other basic human rights like education, shelter, or fair treatment. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like right, freedom, equality, justice, liberty, respect, dignity, education, shelter, food, water, safety, vote, speech, and religion. Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the vocabulary finally stick.

The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about whether all children have the same rights everywhere. The crossword I use for partners. I added a couple simple handshake and heart drawings but nothing too busy.

Works for 4th through 5th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers list three rights they think every child should have on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.
