Kindergarten Family Members word search, scramble and crossword puzzle
I made this family members puzzle set for my Kindergarteners during our "All About Me" unit. The kids loved talking about their families, but they kept mixing up the names and had trouble remembering which word went with which person—especially when we started talking about "cousin" and "aunt." So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like mom, dad, sister, brother, baby, grandma, grandpa, aunt, uncle, cousin, family, and home. Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the vocabulary finally stick.
The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess or indoor recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about the spelling of "grandma" or whether "aunt" and "uncle" are related to mom or dad. The crossword I use for partners or as a review, and I usually have a set of family picture cards nearby for the kids who need visual support . I added a couple simple stick figure family drawings but nothing too busy.
Works for Pre-K through 1st grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers draw their own family on the back and label each person with a word from the puzzle. The kids actually ask for these now.
