Kindergarten Shape Words word search, scramble and crossword puzzle

I made this shape words puzzle set for my Kindergarteners during our beginning of the year math and art unit. The kids could point to shapes like circles and squares but kept mixing up the words, especially when we were doing shape sorting activities. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like circle, square, triangle, rectangle, oval, star, heart, diamond, and crescent. Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the shape vocabulary finally stick.

The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess or indoor recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about the spelling of "rectangle" or whether a diamond is the same as a rhombus. The crossword I use for partners or as a review, and I usually have a set of shape cards nearby for the kids who need visual support. I added a couple simple shape drawings but nothing too busy.

Works for Pre-K through 1st grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers draw a picture using three shapes from the puzzle on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.
