Introduction

If you’re teaching French grammar and your students are having a hard time understanding how to use the conditionnel présent, this resource was made to give them extra practice in a simple and clear way. I created these exercises after noticing that many students understand the formation but still struggle to use it correctly in sentences. So the goal here is just to give them enough repetition to feel more confident.

Teaching tips

Run the five exercises in order - the sequence moves from isolated forms to sentences to hypotheticals to real-world politeness, each building on the last.
Before exercise 2, have students predict the irregular stems (ser-, ir-, fer-, pourr-) and check themselves against the corrigés.
Use exercise 5 as a paired speaking task: one student reads the blunt command, the partner answers with the polite conditional version.
The si-clause page doubles as a grammar-pattern lesson: highlight the imparfait trigger in each prompt before students supply the conditional.

On the politeness exercise, yes - they note that answers may vary slightly and give standard correct forms such as 'Je voudrais de l'eau' and 'Tu pourrais fermer la porte ?'; the conjugation and si-clause answers are exact forms.
