Letter X Word Scramble Worksheet
Hey teachers! Here's a hands-on word scramble I use with my kindergarteners when we're learning about the letter X. This 2-page printable has 12 age-appropriate words that start or end with X - like "fox," "box," and "xylophone."
I made these scrambles extra friendly for little hands:
Big, clear fonts
Picture clues next to tougher words
Only horizontal orientation (no diagonal/backwards)
Short words (3-5 letters max)
We use this during our letter X week in three ways:
Morning table work (with magnetic letters to help)
Small group activity (I read the words aloud first)
Take-home practice (parents love the included answer key)
The kids especially like the picture hints for words like "x-ray" (I drew a simple bone) and "ax" (a cartoon woodcutter's tool). Last year, my class begged to do it twice - once with crayons, once with stamps!
Words included:
• Six (easy)
• Mix (medium)
• Xylem (challenge - with plant picture)
Format: PDF with:
Page 1: Main activity (12 scrambles + pictures)
Page 2: Answer key and teaching tips
Pro tip: Have kids "x" each word with a different color after solving!
