About This Product

Logic Puzzles Vocabulary word search, scramble and crossword puzzle

I made this logic puzzle vocabulary puzzle set for my 4th graders during our critical thinking unit. The kids loved solving puzzles but had no idea what words like logic, reasoning, or eliminate meant when we started talking about how to think through problems systematically. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like logic, reasoning, puzzle, clue, eliminate, solve, pattern, strategy, grid, deduction, problem, and solution . I also included a few like "proof" and "argument" because they kept coming up in our class discussions about how to justify an answer . Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the vocabulary finally stick.

The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess, and the scramble gets them talking because they argue about the spelling of "deduction" (it's a tricky one) or whether logic and reasoning are the same thing (they're related but not identical—logic is the formal system, reasoning is the process of using it, and the kids always have opinions about it). The crossword I use for partners or as a review, and I usually have a set of logic puzzle examples nearby for the kids who need a visual to see how the terms apply . I added a couple simple puzzle piece, question mark, and lightbulb drawings but nothing too busy.

Works for 4th through 6th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers write a simple clue for a logic puzzle on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.
