Marine Careers word search, scramble and crossword puzzle

I made this marine careers puzzle set for my 3rd and 4th graders during our career exploration and ocean unit. The kids loved learning about the ocean, and I wanted to show them that marine science is a lot more than just studying dolphins and whales . So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using terms like marine biologist, oceanographer, marine conservationist, marine archaeologist, marine geologist, marine engineer, and physical oceanographer . I also included working titles like deckhand, commercial fisherman, and harbour master to show that people in different marine careers often work with boats and on the water .

The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess or as an intro to the unit. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about how to spell "oceanographer" or what the difference is between a marine biologist and a marine conservationist . The crossword I use for partners or as a review after we've watched a few career videos. I added a couple simple fish, boat, and wave drawings but nothing too busy.

Works for 3rd through 5th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers pick one marine career from the puzzles and write what they do on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.
