Mock Trial Vocabulary word search, scramble and crossword puzzle

I made this mock trial vocabulary puzzle set for my 4th graders during our government and justice unit. The kids loved acting out courtroom roles but had no idea what words like prosecutor, defendant, or objection meant when we talked about how a trial works. They kept asking questions like "What's a witness?" or "Who is the judge?" So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like judge, jury, lawyer, prosecutor, defense, witness, evidence, objection, court, gavel, bailiff, and trial . I also threw in a few like "testify" and "oath" because they kept coming up in our mock trial prep . Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the vocabulary finally stick.

The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess, and the scramble gets them talking because they argue about the spelling of "objection" or whether a "bailiff" is the same as a police officer . The crossword I use for partners or as a review after we've watched a short video about courtroom roles . I added a couple simple gavel, scales, and witness stand drawings but nothing too busy.

Works for 4th through 6th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers pick one courtroom role from the puzzles and write one sentence about what they do on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.
