Ocean Pollution Vocabulary word search, scramble and crossword puzzle

I made this ocean pollution vocabulary puzzle set for my 3rd and 4th graders during our Earth science unit. The kids loved the ocean but had no idea what words like pollution, plastic, or recycling meant when we started learning about how human activity affects marine life. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like ocean, pollution, plastic, trash, recycling, clean-up, marine, life, water, and protect . Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the vocabulary finally stick.

The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess, and the scramble gets them talking because they argue about the spelling of "pollution" (it's a tricky one) or whether recycling and clean-up are the same thing (they're not—they always have opinions about it). The crossword I use for partners, and I usually have pictures of ocean pollution and clean-up efforts nearby for the kids who need the visual support to connect the words to real-world actions.

Works for 3rd through 5th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers write one way they can help reduce ocean pollution on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.
