Teaching tips

Cut pages 1-7 along the four-per-page grid; the printed numbers 1 to 28 keep a scoot or centre rotation in sequence without re-sorting the deck
Hand out the first «Je réponds» sheet with cards 1-14 and the second with cards 15-28, which splits the deck into two equal sittings
Cards written for nous and vous (nous apprîmes, vous répondîtes, vous écrivîtes) carry the endings students miss most, so those cards make a focused mini-lesson before the full deck is released
The corrigé prints each sentence complete rather than the verb alone, so it doubles as a short model text for reading the passé simple aloud

Passé simple formation — students convert a bracketed infinitive into its passé simple form inside a written French sentence on each of the twenty-eight cards.
Irregular verb recall — the deck calls for être, avoir, prendre, écrire, lire, voir, courir and descendre, whose stems (fûmes, eûmes, pris, écrivîtes, lut, vîmes, courûmes, descendis) do not follow the regular endings.
Subject-ending agreement — cards rotate through je, tu, il, elle, nous, vous and ils, so the ending has to be chosen for the person named rather than carried over from the previous card.
Reading French sentence context — each prompt is a full sentence such as «Vous (répondre) à toutes les questions de l'examen», so the verb is read in context before it is conjugated.
