Sight Words Grade 1 word search, scramble and crossword puzzle

I made this sight words puzzle set for my 1st graders during our reading unit. The kids could read simple books but kept stumbling over trickier common words like "again," "could," or "walk." So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like after, again, an, any, as, ask, by, could, every, fly, from, give, going, had, has, her, him, his, how, just, know, let, live, may, of, old, once, open, over, put, round, some, stop, take, thank, them, then, think, walk, were, and when. Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the first grade Dolch words finally stick.

The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about how to spell "could" since the L is silent. The crossword I use for partners. I added a couple simple star and book drawings but nothing too busy.

Works for 1st through 2nd grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers pick one word and use it in a sentence on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.
