Sight Words Pre-Kindergarten word search, scramble and crossword puzzle
I made this sight words puzzle set for my Pre-K students during our reading readiness unit. The kids were just starting to recognize letters but couldn't yet read common little words like "the" or "and" by sight. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like a, and, away, big, blue, can, come, down, find, for, funny, go, help, here, I, in, is, it, jump, little, look, make, me, my, not, one, play, red, run, said, see, the, three, to, two, up, we, where, yellow, and you. Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the pre-primer Dolch words finally stick.
The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about how to spell "said" since it doesn't sound like it looks. The crossword I use for partners with plenty of picture clues. I added a couple simple star and smiley face drawings but nothing too busy.
Works for Pre-K through Kindergarten. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers pick one word and use it in a sentence on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.
