Thomas Jefferson's Birthday Word Scramble Worksheet
I made this word scramble for my 5th graders when we studied the Founding Fathers last year. It's a simple 2-page PDF with 24 scrambled terms about Jefferson's life and achievements - words kids actually encounter in history lessons like "Declaration," "Monticello," and "Louisiana."
The words range from easier ones like "book" (for Jefferson's library) to tougher ones like "architect" (since he designed his home). I printed these on parchment-style paper when we did our Colonial America unit, and the class worked on them while waiting for our Jefferson birthday cake.
You'll get:
• Page 1: The scramble with clear spaces for answers
• Page 2: A no-frills answer key
I use this when:
Introducing our Jefferson lessons
Needing a quick history activity
Preparing for Constitution Day
The words connect to real things we discuss - "inventor" (for his gadgets), "Virginia" (his home state), and "president." My class last year loved discovering "Liberty" was one of the words right before we studied the Declaration.
Format: Basic PDF (2 pages)
Teacher Tip: Have students underline the word that interests them most to research!
