Trailblazers in Business word search, scramble and crossword puzzle
I made this trailblazers in business puzzle set for my 4th graders during our biography and social studies unit. The kids could name a few famous businesspeople, but they had no idea that entrepreneurs come from all over the world and that you don't have to be born in the U.S. to start a global company . So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using names like Hamdi Ulukaya (Chobani), Daniel Lubetzky (KIND Snacks), Luis von Ahn (Duolingo), Max Levchin (PayPal), and Mike Krieger (Instagram) . I also included key terms like entrepreneur, innovation, founder, capital, risk, and start-up . Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the vocabulary finally stick.
The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess or independent practice. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about the spelling of "entrepreneur" or whether Duolingo is a business or a school . The crossword I use for partners or as a review after we've read short biographies of business trailblazers . I added a couple simple lightbulb, dollar sign, and globe drawings but nothing too busy.
Works for 3rd through 5th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers pick one entrepreneur from the puzzles and write one fact about what business they started on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.
