How many ways can you show a value? How are percentages, ratios, rates, fractions and decimals related to each other?

o This open-ended and creative math project is perfect for a percentage unit and is a great way for your students to stretch their learning and thinking by connecting all the math concepts they have been practicing.

o It is easy to differentiate: assign simpler percent values (50%, 10%) to students with developing understanding and more difficult percent values (12.5%, 66.7%) to students who are in need of a challenge.

o The completed percent posters make a fabulous bulletin-board display or they can be a meaningful project for student portfolios at parent conferences.

Student Instructions:

Each one of you will be assigned a specific percentage.

Your job is to show it in as many ways as you can think of:

• Equivalent fractions: How many can you think of?

• Part-to-part and part-to-whole ratios: Can you make some of them visual?

• Decimals: How does this convert to tenths, hundredths or thousandths?

• Rates

• Pictures & graphs

• Word problems
