World Records Vocabulary word search, scramble and crossword puzzle

I made this world records vocabulary puzzle set for my 3rd and 4th graders during our reading and growth mindset unit. The kids were obsessed with Guinness World Records, especially the fearless feats and the "big, bigger, biggest" idea of record-breaking . They kept asking questions like "Who is the fastest person in the world?" and "What's the longest word in the dictionary?" , so I wanted to build vocabulary around the official record terms and the mindset it takes to break one . I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using key terms like fastest, tallest, largest, smallest, achievement, challenge, world record, feat, attempt, and title. I also threw in a few like recognize, Guinness, and milestone because they came up when we read about different record holders .

The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about the spelling of achievement or whether fastest and tallest are both superlatives (they are, and the kids have strong opinions about it) . The crossword I use for partners or as a review after we've looked up actual record holders. I added a couple simple star, medal, and trophy drawings but nothing too busy.

Works for 3rd through 5th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers pick one word from the puzzles and write a sentence about what record they would try to break on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.
