In this activity the learner will be sorting COLORS and is a nice beginner activity for the early learner. It is also great to use with a learner who is more advanced but needs a quick activity that he/she can do independently free of errors. This activity that can help develop a learner's cognitive and perceptual abilities involves sorting colors. The activity can begin by providing the learner with a set of sorting cards that feature different colors (red, blue, green, yellow, etc.). The learner is then asked to sort the cards either by color. For example, the teacher might show the learner a green card and ask the learner to sort all the green cards into one pile, or all the red cards into another pile. The activity can be tailored to the learner's level of ability, gradually introducing more complex colors as the learner becomes more adept at sorting. For younger learners, the cards can feature primary colors, while older learners can be challenged with a more wider range of colors. This activity can be conducted individually or in a group setting, allowing learners to learn from each other and collaborate as they work through the sorting process. It is also a fun and engaging way for learners to develop their sorting skills, which can have practical applications in a variety of fields such as science, engineering, and computer programming. This activity is easy to create. Print, laminate, cut (once) and velcro. You can use a coil binding machine to create a coil bound activity book, or you can use a three hold punch and place in a binder or use binder clips for many years of teaching and learning. Build a Tower! Phonic Game: OO

Here is an ultra fun game to help pupils learn to sound out words with both the long and short forms of OO as in moon and book. When introducing OO words, many children have particular difficulty sounding out short OO words. This game can take the stress out of learning. How to play The game involves each player having a baseboard upon which to build his/her tower. Players aim to be the first to build their tower and win! Word cards containing both long and short OO words are scattered on the table - with an 'oops' card hidden amongst them! Players take turns to choose a card. If it is read correctly, the player places it on his/her baseboard and begins to build a tower. Teachers and parents may give the child as much help as needed to read each word and turn it into a teaching opportunity. With more confident children, you can change the rules so that the card is returned face down to the table if it is not read correctly. If a player chooses the 'Oops' card, then the whole tower is wiped off the player's board and the cards are returned to the table, face down and play continues until someone manages to build their tower. Your pupils will have so much fun they will forget that they are learning! Games take the pain out of learning! BUGS BUGS BUGS - sorting bugs Beware this activity could make your skin crawl! To begin the activity, the learner is presented with two sorting cards each featuring an image of a specific type of bug, such as a ladybug and a butterfly. The learner is then given 12 cards, each of which features an image of a ladybug or a butterfly, but with some slight differences between them and asked to sort or group them by insect. This activity can be made more difficult by asking the learner to sort bees and wasps or beetles and cockroaches - Yes, I said cockroaches. YUCK. - however they do elicit a response of gross and giggles from many. Keeping it fun! By engaging in this fun and interactive activity, learners can improve their observation skills, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities, all while learning about the fascinating world of insects. The pages are clear of visual distractions which helps the learner focus on the task and also helpful for those learners who struggle with visual attention. In this product, you will combine graphing and SEL. This is the perfect back-to-school or get-to-know-you activity in any class-not just math! Students will receive a graphing page and a page with questions. Each question has a coordinate after it that the students plot on the graph. When the student is done plotting all the coordinates, they will draw a line to each coordinate and create a very unique shape. Some of the statements are; I like tacos, I have a pet, I have a sibling, I play a sport, I like sushi, I prefer outside to inside, I am an optimist, I like board games , my name has more than 5 letters, I have traveled outside the country, I speak more than one language, and I love gardening-among more. There are 20 statements. If a statement is not true for the student, they simply cross it off or skip to the next statement. This is a great resource for having students share and get to know each other, you will also get to know your students quite well from this activity. This would also be a great advisory activity at the beginning of the year. Another idea is to post these on a bulletin board afterward and admire the different unique shapes of your students. Students can also create an image from their shape if they wish-such as an animal, person, object, etc. One of the objectives of this resource is to allow students to reflect on their likes and dislikes and personality. The other objectives are for students to share commonalities and embrace differences. Lastly, you as the teacher will really get to know your students. This is fully editable so feel free to change the questions to your liking. You know your students best! You do not need to be a math teacher to use this resource! It's great for school counselors, specialists and advisory teachers as well.

In this SEL Boom Deck, students will learn about flower (healthy), weed (bothersome) and cactus (unhealthy) friendship behaviors. It is important for students to learn some of the behaviors that are bothersome and frustrating and to learn that they do need to address these sooner rather than later. Just like a weed ignored or not wanting to be dealt with, it can get worse and impact the friendship in a negative way. Some examples of flower (healthy) behaviors are; letting your friends have other friends, being there to help, standing up for them (being an upstander), and many more. Some of the weed (bothersome) examples are; bragging, copying a friend, not paying a friend back for borrowing money, and more. Some examples of cactus (unhealthy) behaviors are; being mad if something good happens to a friend, putting a friend down, gossiping, not letting a friend join their other friends, and many more. There are 24 task playing cards and 5 instructional cards so this can be played as a whole classroom lesson, a small group lesson, with partners or assigned to individuals to do as homework. There is a handout that matches the concepts for students to fill out to remember the different friendship behaviors and a question about what they can do if there friend is exhibiting either a weed or cactus type friendship behavior. This is a Boom Deck that is great for 3rd grade, 4th grade, 5th grade, and sixth grade.
