Thirty-two French être expressions, each paired with its English meaning, form the vocabulary bank for this Taboo card game. The reference list ranges from straightforward states like être malade (to be ill) and être pressé(e) (to be in a hurry) to idioms such as être dans les nuages (to daydream) and être sur son trente-et-un (to be dressed to the nines). During play, one student tries to get a teammate to guess the word printed at the top of a card by giving French clues, without using any of the taboo words listed beneath it; teams score a point for each word guessed correctly. Beginning students can be allowed to use the taboo words themselves as a scaffold, while more advanced students play by the standard no-taboo-word rule. The 31 expression cards and one title card are provided in both a full-color and a black-and-white version for printing, cutting, and laminating.
