Posters: ACK Words
ELA, Language Development, Phonics, Preschool, Grade 1, Posters, Classroom Decor

Posters: ACK Words provide educators with a helpful visual resource for teaching students about words ending in the ACK digraph. These 8.5x11 posters clearly display common ACK words next to colorful images representing their meaning. Use these posters during whole-group ACK word instruction to introduce new vocabulary. Or, display the posters in a reading center as an anchor chart so students can reference them while working independently. The posters spark ideas for student writing by modeling how to spell words using the target phonics pattern. Teachers may also print the black and white version for activities like ACK word hunts around the classroom. With their engaging design, these no-prep posters strengthen important skills: recognizing, reading, and identifying words with the ACK ending. They are suitable for individual and whole-group activities in kindergarten or first grade language arts and phonics lessons.

5 FREE Initial Sounds Worksheets: i
Language Development, ELA, Phonics, Kindergarten, Preschool, Worksheets & Printables, Worksheets

5 Initial Sounds Worksheets: i A pack of 5 worksheets to help children learn to recognise the letter 'i' by both its shape and its sound, while also building correct letter formation from the very start. Each worksheet approaches the sound from a slightly different angle, so the child gets plenty of repetition without it ever feeling repetitive. Worksheet 1 asks the child to read a row of letters, tracing each one and saying the sound aloud, before naming a set of pictures and writing the initial sound underneath each - bringing sound, shape and word together in one simple task. Worksheet 2 has the child trace a large, chunky version of the letter, then hunt through a group of jumbled letters to find every occurrence of the target letter, tracing and saying the sound each time they spot one - a lovely way to sharpen visual discrimination alongside letter recognition. Worksheets 3 to 5 build on this foundation with a variety of engaging activities - among them, listening for the target sound among a set of pictures and colouring only those that begin with it, matching the letter to pictures that share its sound, and a hands-on cut-and-stick activity where the child finds, names and sticks down the pictures that begin with the sound, saying it aloud as they go. Throughout the pack, correct pencil hold and letter formation are encouraged, with directional arrows and starting dots to guide the child. What is included: 1 PDF containing 5 worksheets. Printing and paper Print on A4 paper, or reduce to A5 if preferred. More This pack is one of a full set covering every initial sound, so you can build up your own complete collection one sound at a time, or move steadily through the alphabet alongside your phonics teaching. 5 FREE CH Phonics Worksheets — For 5–6-Year-Olds and ESL/EFL Learners Teaching phonics effectively doesn't have to mean hours of preparation. These ready-to-use worksheets have been designed with busy parents and teachers in mind — clear, purposeful, and straightforward to pick up and use from the first session. This free sample pack contains five worksheets focusing on the CK spelling pattern. While the sound itself is introduced early in most phonics programmes, these worksheets are pitched at a higher level — they expect more of the pupil. The activities are designed for children who are ready to work with greater independence, handle more on a page, and apply what they know rather than recognise it. That makes them equally well suited to higher-achieving five and six-year-olds and to older ESL and EFL learners working through English spelling conventions for the first time. Each worksheet has been carefully structured to build confidence and reinforce learning through focused reading and spelling practice, with some comprehension work included where appropriate. The clean, uncluttered layout keeps the emphasis on the sound and the task. Suitable for: Home educators Classroom teachers Tutors SEN teachers ESL and EFL teachers Working at grades: Year 1 / Grade 1 / Ages 5–6 (higher-achieving), and older ESL/EFL learners. Eco-friendly printing Black and white throughout, so printing costs stay low. These worksheets sit alongside any phonics programme you are already using. Special Resources, ELA, Special Education Needs (SEN), Language Development, Phonics, Reading, Not Grade Specific, Activities, Games

Here is an ultra fun game to help pupils learn to sound out words with both the long and short forms of OO as in moon and book. When introducing OO words, many children have particular difficulty sounding out short OO words. This game can take the stress out of learning. How to play The game involves each player having a baseboard upon which to build his/her tower. Players aim to be the first to build their tower and win! Word cards containing both long and short OO words are scattered on the table - with an 'oops' card hidden amongst them! Players take turns to choose a card. If it is read correctly, the player places it on his/her baseboard and begins to build a tower. Teachers and parents may give the child as much help as needed to read each word and turn it into a teaching opportunity. With more confident children, you can change the rules so that the card is returned face down to the table if it is not read correctly. If a player chooses the 'Oops' card, then the whole tower is wiped off the player's board and the cards are returned to the table, face down and play continues until someone manages to build their tower. Your pupils will have so much fun they will forget that they are learning! Games take the pain out of learning! Ease of preparation: The game is easy to make: simply print the baseboards and desired word cards, then cut up the word cards. Full instructions included Who can use the Build a Tower: OO game? It can be used by: Parents Teachers Tutors. What is included in the Build a Tower: OO game? 2 baseboards 2 pages of words with a mix of long and short oo sounds Instructions 1 PDF 6 pages

Screaming Social Story
Special Resources, Social Skills, Not Grade Specific,

Social stories use a patient and reassuring tone to teach children about social situations in a way that can be easily understood. Social stories are particularly useful for children on the autistic spectrum for whom social cues can be challenging and who often suffer anxiety if they do not know what to expect from a situation however social stories can also be useful for any child who is struggling to understand a situation or concept or needs help to understand a social skill or social cue, expectations, perspectives, common responses or is troubled about an upcoming event. This social story is to support children with a tendency to scream loudly in times of high emotion. These books should be used over and over to reinforce the point so I would suggest either putting the pages into a display book or laminating and binding them. Clipart images courtesy of Kari Bolt.

OR 5 FREE Phonics Worksheets
Phonics, Language Development, ELA, Spelling, Special Education Needs (SEN), Special Resources, Kindergarten, Grade 1, Worksheets & Printables, Worksheets

OR Phonics Worksheets - 5 FREE Teaching phonics effectively doesn't have to mean hours of preparation. These ready-to-use worksheets have been designed with busy parents and teachers in mind — clear, simple, and straightforward to pick up and use. This free sample pack contains five worksheets focusing on a single phonics sound. Each worksheet has been carefully structured to build confidence and reinforce learning through a mix of activities, including word recognition, spelling practice and simple reading comprehension. The clean, uncluttered layout means children can focus on the sound rather than the page — and the black and white format keeps printing costs to a minimum. Suitable for: home school tutors SEN teachers ESL teachers Working at grades: Kindergarten Reception Year 1 These worksheets sit alongside any phonics programme you are already using. Whether you are following a school scheme, home educating, or supporting a child with additional learning needs, they slot in easily without disrupting your existing approach. Each activity has been trialled with real children in real teaching sessions. The progression within each pack is deliberate — building from phonemic awareness, through to recognition, through to application, giving children the practice they need to truly secure each sound before moving on. If you find these samples useful, the complete sound packs are available here. Each full pack covers the same sound in greater depth, with a more comprehensive range of activities, a video lesson and the accompanying reading book — everything you need to teach, practise and consolidate in one place. If your child's current phonics programme is not having the desired results, Reading Made Simple can help. It is borne out of my work with pupils with severe difficulties and none, and has proved effective in every case. It is a living programme, written on the chalk face, not in a university. New sounds are added regularly as the programme grows. S uitable for Reception and Year 1. Compatible with all systematic phonics programmes.
