Fire Safety word search, scramble and crossword puzzle I made this fire safety puzzle set for my 1st and 2nd graders during our safety unit, especially around Fire Prevention Week. The kids knew fire was hot but had no idea what to do if there was a real fire or how to prevent one. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like smoke, alarm, detector, fire, flame, heat, match, lighter, candle, space heater, escape, plan, meeting place, stop, drop, roll, crawl, low, air, firefighter, 911, extinguisher, and practice. Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the fire safety rules finally stick. The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about whether you should stop, drop, and roll if your clothes catch on fire. The crossword I use for partners. I added a couple simple smoke detector, fire, and firefighter hat drawings but nothing too scary. Works for K through 3rd grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers write the three steps of stop, drop, and roll on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.

Respect Words word search, scramble and crossword puzzle I made this respect words puzzle set for my 2nd and 3rd graders during our social-emotional learning unit. The kids could say "respect" but had no idea what words like courteous, considerate, or honor meant when we talked about showing respect to others. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like respect, courteous, considerate, honor, polite, listen, obey, kind, take turns, and apologize. Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the respect vocabulary finally stick. The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess or indoor recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about whether saying "please" and "thank you" is always respectful. The crossword I use for partners or as a review. I added a couple simple handshake, bow, and star drawings but nothing too busy. Works for 2nd through 4th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers write one way to show respect to a teacher on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.

The kids could put a period at the end of a sentence but had no idea what a comma or apostrophe was for. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like period, question mark, exclamation point, comma, apostrophe, quotation marks, colon, semicolon, parentheses, dash, hyphen, end mark, pause, contraction, and list. Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the punctuation names and uses finally stick. The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about whether a comma goes inside or outside quotation marks. The crossword I use for partners. I added a couple simple dot, comma, and apostrophe drawings but nothing too busy. Works for 2nd through 4th grade. Print and go.
