Latino/Hispanic Culture Vocabulary word search, scramble and crossword
Holiday & Seasonal, ELA, Reading, Language Development, Vocabulary, Kindergarten, Grade 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, Word Searches, Worksheets, Worksheets & Printables, Crosswords Puzzles
Latino/Hispanic Culture Vocabulary word search, scramble and crossword puzzle I made this Latino and Hispanic culture vocabulary puzzle set for my 3rd and 4th graders during our heritage and identity unit. The kids had heard terms like Hispanic and Latino but had no idea what the differences were or what words like heritage, identity, or tradition really meant when we talked about culture. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using key terms for identity and culture like Hispanic, Latino, Latina, Latinx, Latine, Chicano, Mexican American, heritage, culture, tradition, identity, and family . I also threw in some everyday cultural words like fiesta, quinceañera, and mariachi because they come up in our classroom conversations . Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the vocabulary finally stick without getting into the grown-up debates about which term is "right." The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess or as a quick intro to the unit. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about whether Latino and Hispanic are the same thing or why some people prefer Latinx over Latina (we keep it simple and say it's about respect and personal choice). The crossword I use for partners or as a review after we've talked about what makes each term different . I added a couple simple heart, flag, and piñata drawings but nothing too busy. Works for 3rd through 5th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers pick one term and write a sentence about what it means to them on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.

Tides and Ocean Currents word search, scramble and crossword puzzle I made this tides and ocean currents puzzle set for my 3rd and 4th graders during our Earth science unit. The kids knew the ocean had waves but had no idea why tides go in and out or what moves water around the planet. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like tide, high tide, low tide, gravity, moon, sun, current, ocean current, surface current, deep current, temperature, wind, Coriolis, and gyre. Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help these tricky ideas make sense. The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue over whether the moon or sun causes tides. The crossword I use for partners. I added a couple simple wave and moon drawings but nothing too busy. Works for 3rd through 5th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers draw a beach with high tide and low tide lines on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.

Invention and Innovation Vocabulary word search, scramble and crossword puzzle I made this invention and innovation vocabulary puzzle set for my 3rd and 4th graders during our STEM and history unit. The kids could name a few inventions but had no idea what words like invention, innovation, or improve meant when we talked about how things change over time. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like invention, innovation, improve, create, design, prototype, patent, idea, problem, solution, and technology. Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the invention vocabulary finally stick. The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess or indoor recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about whether innovation is the same as invention. The crossword I use for partners or as a review. I added a couple simple lightbulb, gear, and rocket drawings but nothing too busy. Works for 3rd through 5th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers write about an invention they would like to create on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.
