Latin American Countries word search, scramble and crossword puzzle
I made this Latin American countries puzzle set for my 3rd and 4th graders during our geography unit. The kids could name a few places like Mexico and Brazil but had no idea what the full region looked like or where each country was located on the map. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using country names like Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay, and Venezuela . I also added a few key capitals like Mexico City, Buenos Aires, Brasília, and Bogotá to build that connection . Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the country names and capitals finally stick in their heads.
The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess or independent practice. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about the spelling of "Guatemala" or whether Puerto Rico counts as a country (it's a U.S. territory, so I left it out) . The crossword I use for partners or as a review after we've studied the map. I added a couple simple continent outline and flag drawings but nothing too busy.
Works for 3rd through 5th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers pick one country from the puzzles and write its capital on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.
