Nouns word search, scramble and crossword puzzle

I made this nouns puzzle set for my 2nd and 3rd graders during our grammar unit. The kids knew that nouns were people, places, or things but had no idea about common nouns, proper nouns, or plural nouns. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like person, place, thing, idea, common noun, proper noun, singular, plural, add s, add es, irregular plural, man men, child children, tooth teeth, and name. Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the noun vocabulary finally click.

The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about whether "happiness" is a noun since you can't touch it. The crossword I use for partners. I added a couple simple person, house, and apple drawings but nothing too busy.

Works for 2nd through 4th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers list three proper nouns and three common nouns on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.
