2nd Grade Basic Skills & Reasoning Assessment | 40 Questions

Are you looking for a simple way to review a second grader’s skills across different subject areas? Look no further! Everything you need is right here. I created this 40 question, no-prep assessment to bring verbal reasoning, number relationships, visual patterns, reading comprehension, and math together in one printable resource.

Use it to review skills your students have learned, check their understanding at the beginning or end of the school year, or identify areas where they may need more practice.

What’s included?

This Grade 2 basic skills and reasoning assessment includes 40 questions across seven sections.

Students choose the word that best completes each sentence, practicing vocabulary and language understanding.

Part 4: Number Puzzles

Students solve addition, subtraction, missing-number, and number-pattern questions.

Part 5: Figure and Pattern Reasoning

How This Resource Can Help

  • Saves preparation time: I’ve brought several types of questions together in one resource, so you don’t have to prepare separate activities for each skill area.

  • Covers a range of skills: Students will work on language, reasoning, visual patterns, reading, and math rather than focusing on just one subject.

  • Makes answer checking easier: The answer key includes brief explanations to help you review students’ responses.

  • Offers flexible use: Administer the full assessment or select individual sections to suit your teaching needs.

This assessment provides a general snapshot of a student’s performance on the included questions. It is intended for classroom review, tutoring, and homeschool use; it is not a standardized or norm-referenced test.
