Learning objectives
Students will match analog clock times to the nearest five minutes.
Students will complete fact families and find missing addends within 20.
Students will recall addition doubles facts and their related subtraction facts.
Students will identify the word name of a targeted digit's place value in a multi-digit number.
Students will solve two- and three-digit addition and subtraction problems mentally.
Teaching tips
Set up each of the six pages as its own station and rotate small groups through all six across a week rather than assigning every center in one sitting.
Have students self-check the mental-math center by re-adding or re-subtracting their matched pair before moving to the next station.
Skills covered
Time to the nearest five minutes — matching analog clock times including quarter-hour and five-minute increments.
Fact families and missing addends — using the relationship between addition and subtraction to find an unknown number within 20.
Addition doubles fluency — recalling double facts from 2+2 through 12+12 and their related subtraction facts from memory.
Place value — identifying which digit in a multi-digit number represents a targeted place and naming it in words.
Multi-digit mental math — adding and subtracting two- and three-digit numbers without written regrouping support.
