About this resource

What's inside this resource

This American Symbols product would be a great extension of your current curriculum. It could be a whole group activity, or it can be independent practice. After teaching about Uncle Sam, it could also be a quick assessment.

This resource includes a reading comprehension passage about Uncle Sam. Students color the image and answer the questions. I always have my students practice answering the questions in complete sentences. I've provided room for them to do that. I also have provided a few examples of how you could use this product depending on your students' levels.

It's important for students to get practice reading for information. Some students may already know a lot of facts about the Uncle Sam, but it's important for them to also practice the skill of answering questions.

This product can work for a few different grade levels. Third graders learn about symbols and landmarks important to our country. Fifth graders learn about American history, and this reading assignment could be a nice addition.
