Fall Spanish Number Game – “Yo Tengo, ¿Quién Tiene?” 0–30 - I Have, Who Has?

Numbers and Number Words 0–30

This autumn version of Yo Tengo, ¿Quién Tiene? is a simple way for students to practice Spanish numbers from 0 up to 30. I like to use it in the fall with beginner groups, since the familiar format of the game keeps everyone involved and makes number words easier to remember. The seasonal design adds a little variety, but the main goal is clear number and word practice.

The resource includes two complete sets of cards. One shows the numbers with standard Spanish spelling, and the other has the number words broken into syllables. I found the syllable version especially helpful for learners who hesitate with longer words such as diecisiete or veinticuatro. Even beginners can join in without feeling overwhelmed.

You can adjust the range of numbers depending on the group. With younger students, I usually start with just 0–10. Later I expand to 0–20, and finally the full 0–30 when they are ready for a challenge. This flexibility makes it easy to use the same game in different classes or at different points in the year.

Playing is straightforward. The student with the start card begins: “Yo tengo el cero, ¿quién tiene el uno?” The next student responds, and the chain continues until the final card. Because every student has to listen carefully and respond at the right moment, the activity builds listening skills and attention as well as number recognition.

I have used this game in whole-class circles, in small groups, and even as a quick filler activity when we had a few minutes left at the end of class. It doesn’t need much preparation—just print, cut, and store the cards in an envelope. Laminating them means they can be reused each fall.

This activity works well in Spanish immersion, dual language classrooms, or with world language learners. It combines vocabulary, listening, and speaking in a way that feels like play, but still builds essential number skills.
