Introduce the sewing project and show the finished toys
Supplies list for the sewing project: wool felt, wool roving, embroidery silk, needle, scissors and ribbon cut-offs
Gather materials before the sewing lesson
Cutting out the goat: white and tan felt body, belly, gusset and ear pieces, plus optional alpine markings and beard
Step one: students cut their felt shapes
Sewing steps: running stitch the markings and folded belly, then join a body piece to the belly legs with blanket stitch
Guided sewing: first seams on the goat's legs
Blanket stitch how-to: three photos with numbered steps for making the loop, then sewing the second body piece to the legs
Demonstrate the blanket stitch before students try it
Joining the head: both body pieces stitched to the belly, sewing the neck and head seam, and adding an optional beard
Progress check: compare student work to the photo
Stitching to the tip of the nose, then placing the gusset between the two body pieces and blanket stitching up one side
Next sewing step: fitting the gusset at the nose
Attaching ears: floppy ears join the blanket stitch; pointed ears are folded at the base and tacked with running stitch
Choice point: students pick floppy or pointed ears
Adding optional horns like the ears, finishing the gusset on both sides, then blanket stitching down the neck and back
Finishing the outer seams of the toy
Stuffing and closing: wool roving is pushed into the head and legs with a chopstick, then the bottom gap is stitched shut
Final step to complete each student's goat
