Grade 6 Ratios and Proportions word search, scramble and crossword puzzle

I made this ratios and proportions puzzle set for my 6th graders during our math unit. The kids could compare quantities but had no idea what words like ratio, proportion, or equivalent meant when we started using the vocabulary. They also kept mixing up "part to part" and "part to whole." So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like ratio, proportion, compare, relationship, part to part, part to whole, equivalent, scale, cross multiply, fraction, colon, for every, per, constant, and rate . I also included a few like "scale factor" and "unit rate" because they kept coming up in our class discussions . Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the vocabulary finally stick.

The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess or independent practice. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about the spelling of "proportion" (it's a tricky one) or whether 2:3 is the same as 4:6 (it is—they always have opinions about it) . The crossword I use for partners or as a review, and I usually have a ratio table or double number line nearby for the kids who need the visual support to see the relationships . I added a couple simple fruit bowl and mixing paint drawings but nothing too busy.

Works for 6th through 7th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers write a ratio comparing boys to girls in the class on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.
