Japanese Fans & Tanka Poems

Teach your students about both the beauty of Japanese fans but also the Tanka poem form. Students work to create their own simple poems and then create and decorate their own fans to be displayed in class. Always a favorite activity in my own classroom and I hope yours as well.

Included in the file are a pdf and editable pptx version of the worksheets as well as a PowerPoint presentation to help guide you and your students through the lesson.

Worksheets include readings on Japanese fans and Tanka poems as well as additional resources on Japanese symbols, Kanji, and the Katakana alphabet. Images of example fans are also provided.
