Navidad Lesson Pack: Las Posadas, Nochebuena y Los Reyes

About This Product
Christmas in the Spanish-speaking world is not a day. It is a season: three weeks of processions, music, midnight dinners, a national lottery, burning effigies, and kings who arrive on January 6. This lesson pack teaches the whole arc, from Las Posadas on December 16 to the Rosca de Reyes on January 6, with real photographs and readings at two levels.
WHAT STUDENTS LEARN
- Las Posadas (December 16 to 24): the sung letanía, the search for lodging, and the seven-pointed piñata
- The Novena de Aguinaldos in Colombia: the parallel tradition of the same nine dates
- Nochebuena and the Misa de Gallo, and the regional table: lechón and pasteles in Puerto Rico, hallacas in Venezuela, tamales in Mexico and Guatemala, pavo and panetón in Peru
- El Gordo: Spain's Christmas lottery, drawn December 22 and sung by the children of San Ildefonso
- New Year: the twelve grapes at the Puerta del Sol, Año Viejo effigies, and good-luck customs
- Los Reyes: cabalgatas on January 5, shoes and grass for the camels, the roscón and the rosca, and the Candelaria close on February 2
- Who brings the gifts, honestly compared: los Reyes Magos, el Niño Dios, el Viejo Pascuero, Papá Noel

TEACH IT DESCRIPTIVELY
The content is culture, taught descriptively and never devotionally. No student is asked to state a belief, and the gift-bringer slide presents what families celebrate, without debunking any family's tradition in either direction.
