Order four whole numbers within 20 from least to greatest
Reverse the same comparison and order four whole numbers from greatest to least
Transfer a completed ordering onto a separate recording sheet, keeping answers matched to the card number

Teaching tips

Cut pages 3-7 on the four-per-page grid; each card keeps its number in the top corner, so a scoot or centre rotation can be sequenced without re-sorting the deck
Work the first ten cards as a least-to-greatest block before releasing cards 11-20, so students learn to check the direction as well as the four numbers
Cards 1 to 5 use consecutive runs, so they make a natural modelling set before the mixed-range cards that follow

Ordering whole numbers to 20 - students arrange four numerals such as 4, 1, 3, 2 or 3, 4, 11, 20 into the blanks printed on each card.
Comparing numbers in both directions - the first ten cards ask for least to greatest and the last ten ask for greatest to least on the same card layout.
Independent answer recording - students copy each finished ordering onto the separate recording sheet under the direction "Write your answers in the space below".

Are the two ordering directions mixed through the deck or grouped together?

Grouped. Cards 1 through 10 all read "Order the numbers below from least to greatest using the empty blanks", and cards 11 through 20 switch to "from greatest to least".

How large do the numbers on the cards get?

Every set stays inside 1 to 20. The highest run is 17, 18, 19, 20 and the widest spreads are sets such as 3, 4, 11, 20 and 2, 15, 17, 20.

Do the cards get harder as the deck goes on?

The difficulty shifts rather than climbing steadily. Cards 1 to 5 and 14 to 17 use consecutive runs like 5 6 7 8, while cards 6 to 10 and 18 to 20 use spread-out sets like 8 10 17 19 and 7 1 13 17, which need real comparison rather than counting on.
