If you want to give students extra practice with reading skills, I have just the resource for you.

What You Get:

This is a Proofreading Worksheet that was designed for elementary students who are working on or have mastered this skill. It also works well as a review for students. This is a 2-page printable with an answer key included.

How To Implement This Resource:

You can print off enough copies of the worksheets for each student to have. You may also choose to print only a few copies and laminate those. If you choose to laminate them, students can use dry erase markers to complete the worksheet. This makes a great small group or reading center activity.

The Proofreading Worksheet has a short paragraph for students to read. As students read the paragraph, they will proofread and find mistakes. In this worksheet, there are 10 spelling mistakes, 19 punctuation errors, and 3 new lines missing (for new speakers).

Identify and correct spelling errors within a continuous passage.
Apply capitalization and punctuation conventions, including quotation marks around dialogue.

Teaching tips

Have students hunt for one error type at a time (spelling, then punctuation, then speaker lines) before attempting a full rewrite, since all three error types are mixed together in a single short passage.
Use the answer page as a self-check after students finish their rewrite rather than handing it out beforehand, since the corrected passage reveals every error at once.
Works well as a laminate-and-reuse station with dry-erase markers, since the task is a single self-contained page.
