About this resource

What's inside this resource

Teaching tips & learning objectives

Learning objectives

  • Students will recognize and locate the Spanish names for the seven days of the week and twelve months of the year within a letter grid.

  • Students will spell each Spanish day and month term correctly while tracing it letter-by-letter in the puzzle grid.

  • Students will apply the same 19-word Spanish vocabulary list to construct their own word-search puzzle using the blank template.

Teaching tips

  • Start students on the easiest puzzle, where words are hidden only rightward and downward, before moving to the version that adds diagonal, leftward, and upward directions.

  • Use the blank 'make your own word search' page as an early-finisher or small-group extension once students already know the 19 words from the earlier puzzles.

  • Assign the three puzzle levels across different sessions or ability groups, since each level keeps the same 19-word list and changes only the search directions.

Skills covered

  • Spanish vocabulary recognition — students search for los días de la semana and los meses del año among 19 target words hidden in a letter grid.

  • Progressive visual scanning — the three included puzzles raise difficulty by adding diagonal, leftward, and upward search directions.

  • Word-search construction — using the blank template, students place the same 19 Spanish vocabulary words into a grid of their own design.

Questions teachers ask about this resource

What changes between the three word-search puzzles?

Only the directions the words can be hidden in. The first puzzle hides words reading right and down, the second adds a diagonal, and the third also allows left and upward — all three use the same 19-word list of Spanish days and months.
