SSI at 18 Guide in English and Spanish for Transition Families

About This Product
This SSI at 18 mini-guide explains, in English and Spanish side by side, what changes with SSI when a young adult turns 18, how to apply or get through the age-18 review, what a representative payee does, and how to track earnings.
Why I made this: Turning 18 is one of the biggest money moments in transition, and a lot of families I work with hear about it late. Spanish-speaking families often get the forms and letters in English with little explanation. I wanted a plain guide they can read in their own language, with the English right next to it for the school team.
What's included:
• Cover and how-to page
• What is SSI (and how it differs from SSDI)
• What changes at 18
• Applying or the age-18 review: a step checklist
• Representative payee basics
• Working, saving, and SSI
• A monthly SSI tracker
• Questions to ask and words to know, with spaces for local contacts
How I use it: Share it with families at a transition meeting or parent night, ideally a year or two before the 18th birthday. Go through the checklist together and fill in local contacts on the last page.
Who it's for: families of students ages 14 to 22 who are more comfortable reading in Spanish, and the transition teachers, case managers, and family liaisons who work with them. English and Spanish sit side by side, so bilingual families and staff can read together.
Format: 9 printable pages, US Letter, English and Spanish side by side on every page. General information, not legal or benefits advice. Rules vary by state. Uses common US Spanish terms for school and benefits (for example preparatoria and su hijo o hija). IEP stays as IEP.
