Children will be drawn to the bright pictures and want to sound out the words on each one! With 18 boxes to choose from, each focusing on a sound family (e.g., ap/at/ot/ut/ etc.), children will get plenty of practice!

Order, Outline and Steps

Preparation

  1. Print all pages except the first page.

  2. Cut each page in half

  3. Laminate the half-pages

Suggested activities

  1. Give each pair of children 4 boxes. Let them each choose a box and read the words to their partner. The partner then takes a box and does the same.

  2. Let one child see how many boxes they can read in a set amount of time, e.g. 3 minutes.

  3. With a group of children, scatter the boxes on the table. Children choose a sheet, read the words and place the it to their right. They then take another and do the same until no more are left. The child with the most sheets when there are no more left is the winner.
